Things that do not save soul (Act chapter 10 & 11)

Many think ironically that the following is the requirement or qualities to be saved. When you study the word of God we will understand differently.

Qualification to be saved and inherit the Kingdom of God IS NOT the following:-

1.   Being Devout ( Acts -10:2)
2.   Fearing God (Acts-10:3 )
3.   Giving much alms  (Acts- 10: 2 )
4.   Praying always  (Acts - 10: 2  )
5.   Seeing vision  (Acts- 10:3-6 )

Cornelius had all the above qualities and still God asked him to bring Peter and listen to the word of God (preaching) to be saved.

It declares one thing that every one of us  need to be saved by hearing the word of God then repent and accept Jesus as your Personal savior (Rom 10:9) then obey the commandment of water baptism.

Brothers, it is so important that the word of God is preached to every living being in the world.

Every one of us may not be able to preach or share the word of God to all our contacts, however, we all can invite a new person to our prayer fellowship. Acts 10:33 – God asked Cornelius to invite Peter and listen to the word which is needed to be saved.

Let us make a challenge today that we will invite one of our contacts to our fellowship in our next Sunday worship meeting.

We are accountable to God for not taking any effort to bring a new person to Jesus.

Act of the Apostles
Review and study of the Ministry of Holy Spirit

(Part 1)
=========================================

• The book primarily deals with the ministry of the Holy Spirit worked through Paul and Peter

• This book begins from the time of ascension of Jesus Christ and ends by the time Paul’s two year jail term.

• Act of apostles is the authoritative book for ministries of Christian churches and the work of apostles and missionaries.

• In NT, this book links between the Gospel and the epistles.

• This book teaches us how one should preach and present Jesus to the world.

• This book shows the conversion of Jews to Christianity, conversion of Law to grace and not only Jews
But even it shows the conversion of Gentiles to christianity and shows how they became the children of God.

• The purpose of this book is to show the birth and the growth of Christianity very clearly to the world.

Perhaps, the key to understand the book of Act is to see this as a continuation of the book of the Gospel of Luke. Luke refers in this book “former account” (Act 1:1), which is his gospel, as “all that Jesus began both to do and teach” ends at His ascension” which he mentioned towards the closing part of the last part of the Gospel of Luke. So his second account ie the book of The Act of Apostles is a continuation of his first book which is the Gospel of Luke.

This book is the amazing epic of what the crucified, risen, ascended Jesus continued to do by His spirit through his chosen witnesses. In this book we see that we are not merely working for Him; He himself in us, working with us and through us. Moreover, in this book we see that His spirit is presented more with his chosen disciples and ministers than he himself with them while he was in this world. This is an encouragement for each and every one of us that His invisible presence is with us more than his physical presents with his disciples.

Ministry of Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecostal Act 2:1-4

At the Day of Pentecostal the HS came down as it was promised in the OT times and marked a few supernatural manifestations in the church age. This is the first incident in the biblical history that the congregation baptized in the Holy Spirit. Please note that the filling by the spirit and Baptism in the HS is two different things. In every baptism in the HS there is a filling; however, in every filling of HS, the baptism in the Holy Spirit is not happening.

The primary evidence of baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. If you really need to know whether you are baptizes in the HS, please ask yourself that whether you are speaking in tongue or not. If you do not speak you are not baptized in the HS. I know many Christians ironically think they are baptized in the Holy Spirit, even though they are not speaking in tongues.

The first supernatural manifestation of the HS was for the ear. It was for the ear, not for the eyes. Scripture point out the important of hearing (Rom 10:17). The sound was of hurricane force, without physical force. What this tells?  He is sovereign, and He moves and does what He wills. He does not conform to the will or expectations of the man. All that borne by the spirit will exactly demonstrate the same qualities described here (John 3:8).

However, the wind had spiritual power. It had the power of the Holy Spirit; the Pentecostal power, which moved the upper room congregation to the streets of the cities and synagogues to witness Jesus.

The second super natural manifestation was for the tongue V3, it appeared to them as cloven tongue like as of fire and they started to speak in other tongues. This was cleansing their tongue as we see in Isaiah 6:5-8 also refer James 3:5 -10. We all need a cleansing of our tongue before we get into his ministry. So it is very important to be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

The 3rd supernatural manifestation was for them to have witnessing power to share the gospel. Refer Act 4:13, 5:28, 7:58.

Please note that the primary object of any spiritual gift is to bring edification and encouragement to the church. Please refer 1 Cor 12:7 and 14:12. All that nine spiritual gifts which is mentioned in chapter 12th of 1st Corinthians verse 7 can be received by praying to God. However, please note that the fivefold ministry, which is mentioned in Ephesians 4:11, cannot be received by prayer. It is up to the father whom he pleases to give (Hebrew 5:4). No man takes however this unto himself.

All the 9 spiritual gifts are mentioned in 1 cor. 12:7 can be brought under 3 categories. They are as follows:-

1. Gift of guidance: Wisdom, Knowledge and discerning
2. Gift of Power: Faith, Healing and Working of miracles.
3. Gift of utterance: Prophesy Tongues and Interpretation.

The more spiritual gifts you receive, the more you would be used in His ministry.

Shall we pray, Father thank you for helping us to review the book of Act of apostles and the ministry of your spirit in the Pentecostal day. Please help us to study more about the ministry of your spirit. Please give us a thirst for the baptism in thy spirit and anoint us with thy power, those who have not been gifted by this most precious gift from you and empower us to witness you boldly in the coming days in the streets of these cities where we live now. Help us to continue this study about your spirit and take us deeper and deeper in thy word. In Jesus name we pray Amen.

Act of the Apostles
Review and study of the Ministry of Holy Spirit
(Part 2)

====================================================

The Evangelical ministry of Holy Spirit Act 5: 29 -32

We see in the above verses Peter and other  apssostle sharing the Gospel and witnessing Jesus Christ in boldness.

In verse 32 we read that there are two witnesses for what the apostles are doing in the midst of the crowd ie “we” means apostles and “Holy Spirit”. Holy Spirit not only empowered them, but He was also with them for what they were doing.

We can see the invisible presence of Him that who empowered them from the day of Pentecostal.

In Rom 10: 13-17, we see a similar passage as Paul referring to the OT scripture that “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved” and asking 4 questions

1.How shall they call him if they have not believed?
2.How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?
3.How shall they hear without a preacher?
4.How shall they preach unless they are sent?

Unless you are sent by the HS you cannot preach the Gospel. On the day of Pentecostal HS came and empowered every believer of Jesus Christ and started His New Testament ministry by giving the baptism in the Holy Spirit to share the Gospel with boldness.

Before we look into the baptism in the Holy Spirit, one must have clear understanding of the seven sprit of the Lord.

In Rev 4:5 we see 7 lamb of fire burning before the throne. Here the seven sprits are represented as lamb of fire.

Rev5:6, we them as horns and eyes, in word of god, horns are representing power and authority and eyes are showing that the lord is presented everywhere. Also refer  2 Chro 16:9.

In Is. 11:2, we see all this seven spirit of Lord  as under .

1.Spirit of the Lord
2.Spirit of Wisdom
3.Spirit of Understanding
4.Spirit of Council
5.Spirit of Might
6.Spirit of Knowledge
7.Spirit of Fear.

A brief study of these seven spirits is vital to fully understand the baptism of Holy Spirit. Let us look at it one by one.

1.The Spirit of the Lord

In Isia61:1 we read that : The spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the lord has anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he has send me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captive and the opening of the prison to them that are bound….

We all know that this prophesy is about Jesus, who is the anointed one. How he is anointed? Peter tells us in Act 10:38 with Holy Spirit and power to preach the Gospel. Who anointed him Is.61:2 says Lord God anointed Jesus for preaching the gospel.

Here the anointing of the Spirit of the Lord is given to a person for enable him to preach. Preaching need preparation and meditation, however, anointing is the most important thing we need for this ministry. There are many preachers are in this ministry who thinks that they can minister the church with their educational qualifications and ends up preaching to the church dead sermons. Nobody wants a dead sermon in the Sunday morning. We all need anointed, fresh and living sermon encouraging and empowering our spiritual inner person to fight the good fight of faith for the next seven days. For this, you need the anointing of the Lord, which is the spirit of the Lord mentioned in Isih 61:1.

2 Cor 3: 6 says “Letter kills and Spirit give life”. Also in 2 Cor. 3:17, it says that “where there is the spirit of Lord, there is liberty”

When Holy Spirit speaks through our lips, men and woman will be transformed by every word coming out of our mouth; that is what we call the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

2 Spirit of Wisdom (Ref Ecl 2:26)

Wisdom simply means, act wisely

Wisdom is a gift from God. You cannot buy it with the money you have. You cannot be wise until you have that gift from God. You can build yourself to be smart, brilliant and efficient; that not necessarily mean that you are wise.

Seven aspects of wisdom is displayed in the book of Proverb. They are:-

1.Proverb 1:8-9 - instructing us to obey our parents
2.Proverb 1:10-19- we are warned to avoid bad company
3.Proverb 1:20-2:22- asking us to seek wisdom
4.Proverb 3:27 – 35 -asking us to being kind to others
5.Proverb 4:23-27 -asking us to keep and warn our heart
6.Proverb 5:1-14 - warns us not to commit adultery
7.Proverb 5:15-23 -it asking us to rejoice to our spouse.

Also it is so important to realize that they are build on seven pillars which is written in Js : 3:17 “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

1.Pure :- To have heart with motive that are clean and pure
2.Peaceable:-To live in peace with others with the best of our ability
3.Gentle :- being sweet to all
4.Easy to be entreated :- being gracious when people ask us for our
  help when it is inconvenient
5.Full of mercy and good fruit:-Marcy is always accompanied by good
      work and act of kindness.
6.Without partiality :-not showing favoritism
7.Without hypocrisy: to be real and true in every area of our life.

Let ‘us pray, Father, thank you again for helping us to review the ministry of thy spirit thou the book of Act. Please help us to go deeper and deeper on the subject and give us a better understanding of what is mean by the Baptism in thy spirit and help all of us to receive it in the coming days. Amen.

Act of the Apostles
Review and study of the Ministry of Holy Spirit
(Part 3)

Seven spirit of Lord/ spirit of wisdom (continue from last week)

David realized the wisdom is more important than anything else such as power, position and prosperity which we read in Proverb 4:5

Get wisdom, understand: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.    Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.    Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

3Spirit of Understanding

Understanding means realizing why God is doing, what he is doing in any given circumstances.

It is the abilities to interpret the dream and visions as we see it in the life of Daniel and Joseph.

When a person has a vision, only god can interpret it.  Daniel had the spirit of understanding and he had interpreted the vision of which King Nebuchadnezzar had seen.

4Spirit of Counsel

One of God’s names is (wonderful) councilor,

Counselor is the one who resolve problems, guides and determines what shall be done in a given situations.

When a person has a problem, he should not be counseled based on human wisdom or spiritually based principles. We must hear from the lord, what is His will and counsel for each specific person.  Definitely this will not be contravened to the scripture.

We see a character, in the book of Job ie Elihu ,  a man with spirit of counseling from God. In Job’s life we see 3 of his friends making wrong statements about him, however, Elihu,  another friend of him not, and God later  blame all three of these friends while he is not blaming Elihu (Job 42:7-10).  Refer Chap 33-42 for more detailed study.

5Spirit of Might

We studied this matter on an earlier date and we reviewed the life of Samson.  So we are not studying it now.

6Spirit of Knowledge

This is the spirit which will enable us to know the past, present and future. May be in vision or dream.

Refer Joh1:14- Jesus says he knew Nathaniel from where he sits under the fig tree

Paul  ( Col 2:5 ) write to Colossians church as if he see them while he was in the prison . Paul was with them in spirit.

7Spirit of  Fear

This is the anointing poured out on nations, community or individuals

While Lord poured out spirit of fear, great fear of conviction and fear of displeasing would spread around specific area or nations.

When Jacob moved from Succoth to Bethel, Gen 35: 7, the fear of the lord was in the surrounding areas to protect him also refer Ps 33:15.

See Rehab’s words in Josh 2:9

We can also see this in NT in Act 5:11 when Ananias and Sapphira,  sin against Holy Spirit, the spirit of fear has spread around the place.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit

This is the Key and His secret to understand all of His wonderful blessing

Without being baptized in the HS we will never know the riches and depth of Holy Spirit

Baptism of HS will awken our spiritual sense and enables us to become a spiritual man.

It is through this experience HS will come and dwell within us and empower us to walk in spirit.

However, it is important to note that the baptism of Holy Spirit is not synonymous with sanctification or holiness. A person can be carnal and at the same time he can have the baptism in HS. Remember, HS is divine and we are only a channel like water is pure but the pipes are channels to transport water from one place to another and at the same time the pipes can become rusty and deteriorated. However, it is one of the greatest tools to aid us for our quest for holiness. Therefore, a greater length of study in the following topics is vital to understand the depth of this doctrine.

It is promised in the Old Testament (OT)

If we have to establish any doctrine in the bible, we need to meet the following conditions

1.It must be taught by Jesus Christ (2John :9)
2.It must be an apostolic teaching (Eph:2:20, 1 Cor.12:27-29)
3.It must be quoted in different parts of the bible and complimenting
  each other
4.Must not be contradicting with other similar verses (Dt 18:20-22)
5.It must be practiced in the first century churches.

It is a the promise which we have from the time of prophet Isaiah 28:11, 43:3

For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.  To whom he said, this is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Initial evidence of Baptism of Holy spirit is speaking in tongue. Paul confirms it in 1Cir 14:21 he also confirms that this is a sign for non believers.

The meaning of Isaiah 28:12 is the process of speaking in tongue is refreshing and the weary will be able to rest in their souls by doing this anointed gift from God, in other words, when you speak in tongue, even if you don’t understand what you are speaking you are actually casting your burdens on Lord and you would find relief after you speak in tongue with Lord which is also called worshiping in spirit (1 Cor. chap 14). This is a wonderful experience and I wish we all should be baptized in HS and speak  in tongue.

In Act 1: 4 Jesus asked all his disciples to stay in the city till they receive the promise of the father which is mentioned in Isaiah 44 :3

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,  and my blessing on your descendants.

Peter confirms it in Act 2:39

(Part 4)

Ministries of Holy Spirit

1.He is a Comforter:-

Lord said to his disciples in John 14:16  “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;”
One of the primary ministry of HS is to comfort and encourage us in our Christian life.

Greek word Parakletas means comforter, it is a position in Romal army in old times who s primary job is to encourage the soldiers who are in the war field. The word comforter used by Lord here has the same meaning.

2.He is a Teacher:-

As per John 14:26   He is our great teacher

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

He does 2 things: Reveal and searches all things

(1 Cor 2 :9-10) But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.

3.He is intercessor

He not only teaches and guides us into all truth, but He also shows us how to pray.

He actually pray through us as per Rom 8:26-27

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Many people pray sincerely believing that what you pray is the will of God. Remember, until you pray in spirit, you are not praying what God wants you to pray.

We should let HS to pray through us. When we let HS to pray for us, we actually let HS to be the mediator between our matter and God.

Act of the Apostles
Review and study of the Ministry of Holy Spirit
(Part 5)

4.He is the Spirit of Truth

As per John 16:13, HS guide us into all truth. Truth is not just info, knowledge or acquire through study. It is something comes down into the very core of our being and we become that truth.

King David said in Psalms 51:6, behold, thou desire the truth in the inward part.

Also he shall not speak of himself , but whatsoever he hear, that he shall speak….

Hear from father and speak to us

(Refer Is 50:4, Mt 5:19,)

John16:13, he will show you the things to come. Hs speak to us through NT that the 2nd coming of Jesus is very close.

As per Eph5:27- Lord is coming to take the church which is w/o wrinkle and spot.
So our primary objective is to make ourselves ready for His return.

Eph 5:27 “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish”

5.He is the unction or anointing

1st John 2:20 “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.”

By this anointing, every child of God will be able to differentiate the true and false teaching, the holy and the profane etc. The anointing of HS will teach us the truth and lead us into trith

6.He is the Author of the scripture

Please refer the following scripture and we can see thyat the actual author og the scripture is HS and not men.

2 Tim 3:16 and 2Peter 1:21

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

7.He is the reprover

John 16:8-11

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:  Of sin, because they believe not on me;  Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;  Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged

He is the convector; all we have to do is just share the gospel and leave it with the God. We should never try to do the ministry of HS, Let him do it and we will be amazed to see the result.

He convicted Paul in 9:5; he is convicting many every day, so let us pray to Lord to speak to those who has not accepted the gospel.
